The Absence of Color

The Absence
of Color

Uganda, 2012

Albinos stand out in East Africa. Often the lone white face in a black crowd, a result of a genetic condition that impairs normal skin pigmentation. They have to endure persecution, social isolation, murder, human rights violations, denial of fair access to education, as well as to healthcare and employment. “The absence of colour” attempts to give a face and a voice to Ugandan Albinos who are discriminated because of a lack of colour.
